Why Get Involved?

Become more aware: It is a way of becoming more aware of the needs and goals of our community. Doing so really allows you to know the values of your surrounding community.

Use your skills: You can start using the skills you are not using in your current job, business or school. In whatever role you hold, you probably aren't using all the skills or even hobbies you enjoy. It could be volunteering your graphic design skills to design flyers, posters and digital banners, it could be helping out with social media awareness, maybe you're great at presenting and can help gain sponsorship for major community events! There are always ways to use and develop your skills through getting involved.

Time management skills: MACS Inc. host a number of events throughout the year. The Moreton Bay Multicultural Fiesta, the Moreton Bay Lunar New Year Celebration, Fundraiser High-teas and so much more! Investing your time in our community events speaks volumes of your character. Helping out at what can often be under-staffed and under-budgeted events would mean a lot to the organisation and the community at large. You can make a difference?

Creative thinking: As an organisation among many others, we are always striving for community attention. We always want good numbers at our events, adequate volunteers and financial and in-kind sponsors supporting our cause. To attract attention, we need creative thinkers. Being a founding member of one of our new annual events, such as the Moreton Bay Lunar Year Celebration, or being a part of a strategic planning initiative really exercises your ability to think creatively. This skill can be invaluable to your future careers.

Expand your friendships: being involved allows you to meet people and expand your network. People and networks are invaluable. You know how the old saying goes "it's who you know..." Let us help connect you to people who will become your friends and colleagues.

Communication skills: learn how to effectively communicate with all types of people. These are individuals who are not your peers or superiors like you are normally used to. It's working as group with mutual responsibilities. Learn how to work effectively in a group by learning key communication skills that you can carry into future roles.
